Digital Product Passports are issued by the business, organisation or entity putting the product onto the market - here we refer to them as the "Brand". In many instances the brand will ask their product manufacturing partners to physically add their DPPs to products during production. The GCN's platform enables brands to authorise their product manufacturers or GCN's Circular Data Centre to upload upstream data to their DPPs on their behalf - all it requires is an authorised RFID reader and download the GCN App to follow the step-by-step guide.

GCN is a UNTP Registered Software Vendor and CIRPASS-2 Expert Working Group Partner. The platform is UNTP-aligned and reader-agnostic — you're not locked into one reader vendor.

Using RFID readers and the GCN App, brands, authorised product manufacturers or GCN's Circular Data Centre adds unique verifiable, traceable UNTP data in bulk to RFID tags that are then added to products during production.

QR CODE/NFC. SEPARATE TOOLS FOR CUSTOMERS + ENGAGEMENT

Each unique RFID tag shows Upstream data to the B2B downstream network plus creates a corresponding Product ID as a QR Code and swing tag for sharing information with the brands customers - keeping product and consumer data separate.

Product manufacturers will add both the bulk sccanning RFID tag plus single-scanning QR Code/NFC to products. Brands can use the Product ID to connect their valuable customers to a network of Extended Producer Responsibility providers who can bulk scan their RFID DPPs and share instant authentication, product-only details plus add reporting data and incentivised circularity.

Brands can offer separate B2C third-party Customer Passport Apps for customers to download post-purchase - successfully decoupling the person from the product and safeguard customer data.

The RFID tag access is B2B only, is passive, battery-free - it has no power source of its own and carries no consumer or personal data.

RFIDs are switched OFF into Privacy Mode at sale - its identifier hidden for as long as the consumer owns the product, and is only reactivated when an authorised operator brings it into its next circular pathway e.g. a reseller, repairer or sorter. Sell it again, and it switches off again. The pattern holds every loop of the product's life: visible to the GCN network, invisible with consumers.
