GCN Upstream Data Pre-Check Checklist

Gather this information before starting a new Upstream product entry — having it ready in advance will make data entry significantly faster.
Having certification PDFs, facility contact details, and material breakdown percentages ready in one place before you start will make the Upstream entry process significantly faster — most delays come from needing to track down a document or a percentage mid-entry.

1. Product Identity

• [ ] Product name

• [ ] Purchase Order number

• [ ] HS/TARIC customs code

• [ ] Product category and sub-category

• [ ] (If Clothing/Apparel or Footwear only) Target Gender and Age Group

• [ ] Size (and note: if sizing doesn't fit a standard list, you'll enter free text via "Other")

• [ ] Colour

• [ ] GTIN (if applicable)

• [ ] Target market — is this product going to the EU market? (Yes/No)

• [ ] Other target markets, if applicable

2. Material Composition (per fibre/material)

For each fibre or material in the product, gather:

• [ ] Material name/description (e.g. "Organic Cotton," "Recycled Polyester")

• [ ] Country of origin

• [ ] Mass fraction (% of total product weight)

• [ ] Recycled content % for that specific material (if applicable — this is now captured per-material, not as one blended product-level figure)

• [ ] Whether this specific material carries any known hazard flag

• [ ] Any certification(s) covering this material (see section 3)

3. Textile/Fibre Certifications

For each certification that applies (GOTS, OCS, GRS, RCS, RWS, RDS, RMS, RAS, Responsible Cashmere, Better Cotton, FSC, European Flax, ROC, OEKO-TEX Standard 100/STeP/MADE IN GREEN, bluesign, Cradle to Cradle, FSC/PEFC Chain of Custody, EU Ecolabel, CanopyStyle, Higg MSI/Cascale, or "Other"):

• [ ] Certificate/standard type

• [ ] Date of expiry

• [ ] Certificate document (PDF or similar, ready to upload) — or confirm it's already been uploaded previously and can be linked/reused

• [ ] Which level this certification applies to: Facility, Fibre/Textile, or Product (a certification can apply at more than one level)

4. Yarn, Fabric Construction & Finishing

• [ ] Yarn count / twist / spinner details (optional)

• [ ] Knit or weave type, GSM (optional)

• [ ] Stretch & recovery % (optional, if applicable)

• [ ] Dyes/finishing chemistry used (e.g. bluesign-approved dyes, low-impact dyes)

5. Chemical & Substance Disclosure

• [ ] EU SVHC compliance status — mandatory if going to EU market: either "We attest compliance — no SVHC above 0.1% w/w" OR "Contains an SVHC above 0.1% w/w" (if the latter, have the substance name ready)

• [ ] Restricted chemicals check — confirm status on: Azo dyes releasing restricted amines, PFAS, Formaldehyde above limit, flame retardants (see GCN's Substances of Concern register for the full/current list: globalcircularnetwork.com/certification/substances-of-concern)

• [ ] Known dye/colourant allergen presence, if any (Tier 1/Tier 2 disperse dyes — only needed if applicable)

• [ ] Sensitive-skin claim — if making this claim, have the independent certification ready to link/upload

• [ ] Any voluntary transparency declarations you want to make (e.g. "PFAS-free," "formaldehyde-free") and who you want each one visible to (Product ID / Sorters / Downstream)

6. Facility Records (for each facility involved — Mill, Trims Supplier, Product Manufacturer)

• [ ] Facility legal name

• [ ] Business name (if different from legal name)

• [ ] Facility country

• [ ] Facility address

• [ ] Business email

• [ ] Business phone number

• [ ] Business Registration Number

• [ ] Open Supply Hub Facility ID (OS-ID), if known — or be ready to search/claim via GCN if not

• [ ] Audit/Business Registration document (mandatory — at minimum, business registration paperwork; audit reports if available) ready to upload

• [ ] Name of the Authority that issued/audited the above document

• [ ] Date of that audit/registration

• [ ] Certifications the facility holds (GOTS, GRS, OCS, OEKO-TEX STeP, ZDHC Contributor level, ISO 14001/45001/50001, etc.) with issuer and expiry

• [ ] Worker Welfare / Social Responsibility standards held, if any (e.g. amfori BSCI, Fairtrade, SLCP, SA8000, SMETA, WRAP)

• [ ] Last audit date and audit organisation (optional)

• [ ] Renewable energy % and primary water source (optional)

7. Weight & Pricing

• [ ] Product weight (grams)

• [ ] Price

• [ ] Show price on Consumer Product ID? (Yes/No)

• [ ] Share price downstream? (Yes/No — independent of the above)

8. Supporting Documents (general)

• [ ] Any Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data, if available

• [ ] Biodegradability/compostability certification, if applicable (e.g. from fibre supplier such as Lenzing)

• [ ] Any other supporting documents not covered above
