RFID technology is growing rapidly and being installed in many commercial locations like factories, shipping ports, laundromats and warehouses.
When readers detect a commercial UHF RFID tag, it sends the tag's unique EPC to the GCN App, which retrieves the matching DPP data — instantly surfacing authorised product data - according to the users authorised status.
Information may include certifications, authenticity, product traceability, sorting data (including any flagged Chemicals of Concern), recycling instructions, etc.
GCN's washable RFiD tags can only be read by commercial RFID UHF readers. This technology enables bulk scanning without requiring a line of sight. Note it is not NFC contactless scanning commonly found on mobile phone devices. Like QR Codes, NFC can only scan one item at a time and therefore inefficient for collecting data at scale. NFC can also be used as a mobile phone payment system linked to a person's bank account, debit/credit card or mobile wallet such as Apple Pay or Google Pay.
GCN is a product-only data platform, it is not able to, or required to collect consumer information. Additionally B2B users are instructed to switch off the EPC when the product is used by consumers. GCN intentionally chose not to use NFC for concerns related to privacy, security and it's inefficiency of single scanning.
RFID readers connected to the GCN Cloud App enables bulk scanning of hundreds of products simultaneously. Note QR codes can only be scanned by making visible, only able to scan one at a time and may not survive a products full lifecycle so they're not efficient for circularity.

The GCN has been designed as an RFID reader-agnostic platform, enabling organisations to use their existing RFID infrastructure wherever possible. The GCN B2B RFID App communicates with commercially available UHF RFID readers via their manufacturer SDKs and APIs, allowing businesses to continue using compatible readers already deployed throughout their operations.
This means that brands, manufacturers, warehouses, logistics providers, retailers, repairers and recyclers can generally read washable RFID tags using their existing existing EPC Gen2 (ISO/IEC 18000-63) UHF RFID readers without investing in new scanning infrastructure. By leveraging equipment already in use across global supply chains, organisations can significantly reduce implementation costs, minimise disruption, accelerate DPP deployment and maximise the return on existing RFID investments.
RFID infrastructure is already firmly established throughout the European Union, China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and many African markets, where millions of UHF RFID readers are deployed across retail, apparel manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, libraries, transport and industrial automation. The GCN platform is designed to remain hardware independent.
