DATA FAQs
DATA FAQs
Brands (DPP Issuers) subscribing to GCN will receive a spreadsheet of data points that will assist them to collect related data first and then follow the step-by-step guide to upload data to GCN's DPPs. If you have trouble accessing your spreadsheet contact GCN - send your request from your registered email to have it resent.
Below are data FAQs to assist in entering Certification References for Facility and Product Certifications for Mills / Trims / Manufacturers plus a list of Textile type examples. Both lists are not conclusive and there are free text fields in the App to add additional data.
This document is a starting reference, not a final legal classification and information entered is to follow your own verifiable credentials. The aim is for DPP Issuers to enter the complete conformity chain to follow the UNTP framework: Standard → Scheme → Accreditation → Certification Body → Certificate → Certified Facility
These are some EXAMPLES of Facility and Product Certifications for Mill / Trims / Manufacturers
GCN recommends Facilities to add their open source data to Open Supply Hub - an independent facility identification and supply-chain data source. Open Supply Hub (OS Hub) is an open-data platform that creates a standardised, unique digital record for production facilities across global supply chains. Each facility is assigned an OS ID, allowing supply-chain information from different organisations and datasets to be connected to the same physical production location. It is particularly relevant to textile and apparel supply-chain mapping.
For claimed facilities, OS Hub can also hold information such as: Contact information, Facility description, Supplier group, Minimum order quantity, Average lead time, Female-worker percentage, Affiliations, Certifications / standards / regulations, Operational/processing information, Energy consumption and emissions estimates, Assessment and audit information.
ISO STANDARDS.
Note, ISO certification bodies are commonly accredited under IAF/GAC's global multilateral recognition arrangement, peer-evaluated to ISO/IEC 17011) -- check the specific certification body's accreditation status per case.
Product & Material Integrity
Cradle to Cradle, Bluesign, GOTS, GRS, RCS, FSC CoC, PEFC CoC, OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 (some are facility-level applications of the same schemes such as OEKO-TEX® STeP - Certified, sustainable textile production facility and MADE IN GREEN — Certified, product + traceability/sustainable production (verified as a product-level cert, not facility-only).
EU Ecolabel.
EU's voluntary Type I ecolabel for products that demonstrate a reduced environmental impact across their life cycle. It product-level, rather than simply a certification of the manufacturing facility. EU Ecolabel specifically requires information about the chemicals, production recipes and technologies used in finishing, and can require product analytical testing. DPPs link the certificate → product → fibre composition → chemical inputs → testing → manufacturing facilities.
Awarded by the European Commission who establish the criteria. The licence is awarded by the relevant national Competent Body designated by an EU/EEA Member State. The Competent Body assesses the application and verifies compliance; it is not the Commission itself issuing individual product certificates.
For textiles, the criteria cover several areas, including: Fibre composition and sourcing, Restricted substances / chemicals, Substitution of hazardous substances in dyeing, printing and finishing, Energy efficiency in washing, drying and curing, Air and wastewater emissions, Durability and fitness for use, Colour fastness, Pilling and abrasion resistance, Durability of functional treatments such as repellency and flame retardancy, Certain social responsibility requirements.
